Walking While Black Date: May 9, 2018 Category Performance Topic Mixed Reality Walking While Black is a live dramatic performance of I look at the world, a poem by Langston Hughes. Following the performance of the poem, I allow participants to move about the performance space and look at a series of twenty-one protest posters. The protest posters are recreations from protests against police violence around the United States. Using mobile devices and an augmented reality application with image recognition capabilities that I developed, participants can see images of some of the many unarmed victims of police violence in America over the past eighteen years. The application was developed using Unity and Vuforia.
